A beach retreat

A comfortable home with a lovely open living/dining/kitchen area that looks out onto a river and lake and is 2 minutes walk from Long Beach and a 20 minute cliff walk into Robe itself.  Best for a single or couple. Solar panels and a water tank are our attempt at being environmentally conscious. Fans and reverse-cycle provide cooling for summer and a free-standing wood fire and reverse-cycle keep the whole house warm during winter. There is covered patio for outdoor dining area and a small back lawn and garden. The whole of the back area has a 'zapper' fence around it which makes it safe for pets.

The home is located 2.5 kilometres from the main village of Robe, a historic town with lovely old buildings and fantastic beaches suitable for walking as well as a rugged coast line. There are no houses opposite or directly behind and only one neighbour along the side (and she's seldom there). The lake opposite the house attracts all types of water birds. If you're lucky, you'll see pelicans soaring in.  Other bird life is on view all the time.  Robe is very well catered for in terms of restaurants and boutique shops and even has its own small cinema. Though there is no public transport or taxi, everything is within walking distance ... if you enjoy walking.  Robe is an hour and a half from Mount Gambier and 3 and a half from Adelaide. Robe has a permanent population of about 1500 but that can swells to 10,000 during summer. The beaches are lovely and there is a section set aside for families where cars and dogs aren't allowed. Otherwise, you can take your car onto Long Beach and there are some great 4 WD tracks through the dunes in Little Dip Conservation Park if you're interested. Limestone Coast boutique wineries are only a 15 minute drive away and the Coonawarra is an easy day trip. Other day trips could take you to the southern parts of the Coorong, Mt Gambier, historic Beachport, or Bool Lagoon.
