The magnificent Murray River was once as busy as a present-day highway, with whistle-blowing paddle steamers travelling back and forth as they transported goods between rapidly growing towns and cities.

Today, it is the kind of peaceful waterway which tempts you to sit on its broad banks under a shady tree, relax and just let the hours slip by.

And when you feel refreshed and in the mood for exploring, Albury-Wodonga is the place to start.

These twin cities sit on either side of the Murray River, cleverly blending city style and country pace, history and contemporary attractions, art and adventure, and a great deal more.

Home to around 90,000 people, Albury-Wodonga is large enough to provide varied holiday attractions and entertainment but small enough for you to enjoy exploring on foot.

And that is certainly the best way to appreciate its distinctive character, with grand old buildings, richly established gardens and broad tree-lined streets. With Australia’s longest river running through the heart of Albury Wodonga, you’d expect to find idyllic river walks and parks. What you might not expect is a pub inspired by a cartoonist, an army museum with a huge collection of military memorabilia and a former migrant reception centre which helped change the face of Australia.

Albury Wodonga has a great range of venues to cater to all tastes. From live music to nightclubs, we have it all. You can enjoy all the large clubs have to offer at the SS&A Clubs in Albury and Wodonga, as well as the Commercial Club in Albury. Also don’t forget the home of country and western at the Kinross Woolshed Hotel. Alongside the fabulous clubs there are a huge range of dining options available to suit all tastes and budgets.  You are never short of choices for eating out in Albury Wodonga. If a night enjoying the latest cinema releases is more enticing then the Regent Cinema is just the place.  In its elegant art deco building you will find Gold Class and Showcase cinemas, Intencity, and an adjoining café making it perfect for the whole family.

Our ‘eat streets’ have it all including fine dining, award-winning breakfasts, historic pubs, busy clubs, stylish cafes and venues which feature a superb range of wine from the surrounding regions. Our region received a magnificent gourmet gift when many Europeans settled here after World War Two.  They brought simply delicious traditions, and many of the delicatessens, smoke houses, cafés and restaurants around Albury Wodonga were started by new Australians who wanted to share their culinary customs. Albury Wodonga is known for our busy, friendly and great value clubs, sophisticated food and wine venues and our huge number of cafes.  Elgin’s in Wodonga has two excellent dining options: the elegant Steak Pit Restaurant and the very family-friendly Elgin’s Bistro. Great value clubs such as The Commercial Club in Albury and the SS&A Club which has venues in Albury and Wodonga ensure there are plenty of choices including accommodation, restaurants, cafes, bars and gaming. And there are two Irish pubs in Albury Wodonga including O’Maille’s in Wodonga which has been quenching the thirst of locals and visitors for more than 130 years.
